Golf Simulator Installation Guide: DIY or Professional

5 min read

Short answer

Most portable and retractable simulators can be self-installed in a day. Professional installation makes sense for ceiling-mounted launch monitors, permanent framing, projector mounting, or any build where the room needs electrical work.

What installation actually involves

  1. Frame assembly — building or mounting the enclosure frame square and level.
  2. Screen tensioning — an impact screen must be evenly tensioned or the image ripples and the screen wears unevenly.
  3. Projector mounting and alignment — set the throw distance, then square and focus the image to the screen edges.
  4. Launch monitor placement and calibration — exact distance and height from the ball, per the manufacturer's spec.
  5. Turf and mat levelling — a flat, consistent stance.
  6. Cable management and power — often the difference between a build that looks finished and one that doesn't.

When DIY is fine

  • Portable launch monitors and net-based practice setups.
  • Retractable enclosures in a straightforward rectangular room.
  • Floor- or shelf-positioned projectors.

When to bring in a professional

  • Ceiling-mounted launch monitors such as the ProTee VX or Uneekor EYE XO2 — height and alignment are unforgiving.
  • Permanent framing in a finished room.
  • Anything needing a new circuit, in-wall cabling, or ceiling work.
  • Commercial installs where downtime and finish quality matter.

Installation in Canada

We're based in Bedford, Nova Scotia and provide installation and setup support for homeowners, businesses and commercial facilities. Details on the installation page, or send us your room details for a quote.

After installation

Keep the screen clean and dry, retension it if it starts to ripple, keep projector filters and lenses clear of dust, and re-run a launch monitor calibration if data starts drifting. See the setup guide for the calibration steps.

Frequently asked questions

Can I install a golf simulator myself?
Yes for most portable, net-based and retractable setups. Ceiling-mounted launch monitors, permanent framing and electrical work are better handled by a professional installer.
How long does golf simulator installation take?
A straightforward retractable enclosure and side-mounted launch monitor is typically a day. Ceiling-mounted equipment and permanent framing take longer and depend on the room.
