Short answer
A garage golf simulator works best with a retractable or folding enclosure so you can still park, plus insulation and a heat source — most launch monitors and projectors are not rated for sub-zero operation.
The garage advantage
Garages usually beat basements on ceiling height and depth, which is why they make excellent simulator rooms. The catch is that you probably still need the garage to be a garage — and in Nova Scotia, you need it to be warm.
Keep the parking spot

Cold and condensation
- Insulate the door. An uninsulated garage door is the single biggest heat loss in most builds.
- Heat before you play. Projectors, PCs and camera-based launch monitors are specified for indoor room temperatures. Bring the space up to temperature before powering equipment on.
- Watch condensation. Warming a cold garage quickly puts moisture on lenses and electronics. Gradual heating and a dehumidifier prevent it.
- Store portables indoors. Portable units like a Garmin R10 or Rapsodo are easy to bring inside between sessions.
Floor and lighting
Garage floors slope to drain, which subtly changes your lie. Level the hitting area with a proper mat build-up. Fluorescent and some LED shop lights flicker in a way that can interfere with camera-based launch monitors — switch to steady LED fixtures if you see inconsistent readings.
