Start with the lowest obstruction
Basements almost never have a flat ceiling. Ducts, beams, plumbing and pot lights all reduce usable height, and the club only needs to hit one of them. Measure to the lowest point in the swing zone, not to the drywall. If that number is 8.5 ft or more, you have a full-swing room. Choose gear that suits a low room
